Most Frequently Asked Questions

WHY HAS WEST COAST SOFTBALL ALL-STARS CHANGED THEIR NAME TO ONDECK SOFTBALL?

West Coast Softball All-Stars was originally a Regional Recruiting Service designed for the collegiate coach. While gradually expanding across the country, the need to change the name from a regional name, West Coast, to a National Name, OnDeck, became readily apparent.

HAS THE SERVICE CHANGED ALONG WITH THE NAME?

Yes! We have changed dramatically. While we still offer the same fundamental service to all our college coaches, OnDeck Softball is now a comprehensive recruiting service that is revolutionizing collegiate softball recruiting. Not only are coaches offered reports and evaluations, but now they have a one-of-a-kind interactive website that will serve as a central recruiting location for coaches across the country, along with expanded Elite Recruiting Camps and other special services.

HOW CAN I BE INCLUDED IN ONDECK SOFTBALL?

Whether you are a College Coach, the Coach of a team, or a prospective student-athlete, simply go to www.ondecksoftball.net and register. Choose the category under which you fall, and follow the directions.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE ONE OF THE TOP 100 PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY IN ORDER TO JOIN?

No! Everyone is invited to join. Thousands of new players each year get the chance to play at the college level. Schools of all levels are looking for outstanding players, so if you play and if you have a dream to play college softball, join OnDeck and increase your chances of reaching your dream.

HOW MANY COLLEGE ROSTER SPOTS ARE FREE EACH YEAR FOR NEW PLAYERS?

Each and every year, that number changes a little bit. However, a general number is 10,000! There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 roster spots available to new players each and every year! You could be one of those lucky players. But you need to act now; rarely does a coach come to a player. Most of the time, the players come to the coach, and that is where being OnDeck can help.

IF I JOIN ONDECK SOFTBALL, CAN YOU GUARANTEE THAT I WILL GET TO PLAY COLLEGE SOFTBALL?

No one can guarantee anything like that. College coaches are looking for players who fit their style and system. And ultimately you have to be a good player. However, you can do things to help you get the exposure you need. OnDeck Softball is something that will allow you to be seen and monitored by the same college coaches who are constantly looking for players who will help them win. OnDeck Softball is a win-win situation for college coaches and players.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF COACHES ARE LOOKING AT MY PROFILE?

Each player has a counter which tells them each time the profile is viewed. And since only verified college coaches can see the profiles, the counter will tell you exactly how many coaches have viewed your profile.

HOW CAN I INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COACHES WHO VIEW MY PROFILE?

This is the beauty of being OnDeck. If you think more coaches should be viewing your profile, you simply need to write them, or email them, and let them know you are OnDeck! As soon as they know you are registered, they will be able to quickly and easily access your profile and video and begin to recruit you. Then, the counter will let you know how successful your efforts were. You also should make sure you list the fact that you are OnDeck on your individual profile and the roster sheets for your travel team.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I UPDATE MY FILE?

That depends entirely upon you. You may update it as often as you want for no additional charge. We encourage you to check in several times a week, particularly when you are in a season. Certainly, you will need to update your stats after each game or tournament you play in.

ARE THERE OTHER REASONS TO CHECK IN?

Yes. The comment and calendar sections are very important aspects of OnDeck Softball. The calendar section will allow you to let the coaches know where and when you will be playing. If you keep that up to date, the college coaches are more likely to show up to watch you play. The comment section allows you to let those same coaches know how you are doing. After a game, or tournament, you should simply jot a note to let the coaches know how things turned out. Communication is key. And in the comment section you can also update them on your academic progress. The more they know about you, the more likely they are going to be to fall in love with you as a prospective student-athlete.

DOES MY JOINING ONDECK HELP ME BE EVALUATED BY THE ALLISTERS?

No. We will try to evaluate as many players as we can, but we can’t see them all! We will evaluate hundreds and hundreds of players each and every year, and all those players will appear in all our reports. However, those evaluations are only one part of the process. The college coaches want to evaluate you, get to know you, and then monitor your progress. OnDeck Softball helps the college coaches do that. Getting OnDeck simply increases your chances of being seen and enhances your opportunity to get recruited.

WILL JOINING ONDECK SOFTBALL ENSURE ME A PLACE IN THE ELITE RECRUITING CAMPS?

No. You have to earn your way in by playing exceedingly well and convincing us that you are a good college prospect. That being said, OnDeck Softball will allow us to view many players’ videos, and those videos can certainly help secure one of those coveted spots in the Elite Recruiting Camps.

HAS ONDECK SOFTBALL HELPED OTHER PLAYERS?

Most definitely! There are many players and parents who aren’t even aware of the fact that OnDeck Softball was instrumental in helping them realize their dreams. Others, including Sammie Camuso (UCLA), Jen Lapicki (Tennessee), Lauren Roussell (Florida), Breanne Evans (Michigan), Christina Zambrana (Arizona State), Courtney Craig (Texas), Alicia Herron (Ohio State), and Chana’e Jones (Oklahoma) are a tiny fraction of those who have been helped significantly by OnDeck Softball. Hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of other players have also benefitted from OnDeck Softball’s expertise.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS INVOLVED WITH ONDECK SOFTBALL?

Bottom line is there is NO COST for the players to be evaluated and to appear in OnDeck Softball reports! For the Elite Recruiting Camps, a small processing fee is necessary in order to pay the costs of putting on the camps. In order to register with OnDeck’s website, a small fee is required simply because the expense and costs associated with the website are substantial. However, the basic philosophy of OnDeck Softball is to minimize, and even eliminate, the many costs associated with the recruiting process, even while giving many players the opportunity to earn scholarships and coveted roster spots as a result of their exposure on the service's recruiting reports and association with OnDeck Softball.

HOW SOON SHOULD I GET ONDECK?

The earlier you can register and get OnDeck, the better. You can not start the process too soon! Even now, college coaches are sifting through Player Profiles as they search for talent. Don’t delay. Get OnDeck today!
