We had a lot of fun with this tryout. The field at Denton Ryan HS is great and we were able to hold a pretty full tryout. We want to thank Matt for all his help, hitting fungo and throwing BP, as well as hosting us at his field. While most of the players were 2030 or younger, their skill level is on the right track. We cannot wait to track their progress over the next few years. We also want to thank Kevin Shelton for all his help with this tryout.
We want to encourage all the players to continue to work, but also have fun with the game. There is a lot of time before most of them start their recruiting journey. We cannot wait to see how much you each progress in the next year.
It is important to remember that in all tryouts we are looking for skill sets and athleticism. We do it this way to make sure an athlete can hold her own in the Jamboree or National Camp setting. If the skill sets of the player can hold up under the rigor of an OnDeck workout, and the prospect is athletic enough to match the athleticism of the other players, then we are good to go. It is our feeling that attending coaches will find that athlete intriguing enough to follow and evaluate on their own.

If you were not selected, keep working on your skill set and athleticism. Do not be discouraged. We want to do what is best for you and help you be successful on the softball field.

Please remember that the ODM numbers, while growing increasingly important, are only a snapshot of a player’s evaluation and potential. They are also just a portion of the Tryout selection process, for more information read Your Tryout & ODM Numbers. Use these numbers as a tool and work at developing your athleticism, but constantly work on improving and refining your softball skill set – both offensively and defensively.
